I can tell you from years of breeding dogs (and if you think goat people are snotty just talk to Bichon breeders! LOL Collie people are more sensible-ha!) Vicki is right in that 'show' people tend to perceive people who have unregistered animals as not serious about their breeding. Its not the registration that makes an animal valuable it's what the breeder does with the genetic history in the pedigree. You can buy a puppy from a pet store with AKC registration and they ain't worth the paper they're printed on. Although not all my goats are registered I got them from reputable and responsible breeders who are sincerely interested in producing quality animals. I love that ADGA allows frozen semen and doubt I will ever keep a buck. I am a crusander in that if you are going to keep and breed animals it's not enough just to produce babies you should be attempting to improve with every generation, whether you register or not.
