I would NOT band him if he was mine, I would clamp him and he would be just fine in about a week or so... If you use the bands on his size it will take weeks and weeks, and he will be in pain the whole time..With hot weather and flies i just would not reccommend the banding. My vet clamped 4 3 month old kids for me in 1996. She first gave them something to numm the area and then she clamped them and in about a week they were jumping and kicking up their heels as if nothing ever happen... I still have them four, plus some.. Over the years i have had my vet, clamp, band and do surgery on buck kids... I have banded younger one's at about a month old and even at that age its very painful.. And they show the pain for several weeks, unlike the clamping. If this goat as a wether is kept as a pet he should be given ammonium cloride either in his feed or water or both daily.. I give all my wethers AC in their water and feed daily.. A couple of my wethers were 7 years old last month... Good luck in whatever you decide to do...
