Today I lost my best doe and my best friend and I don't know why. Last night she behaved as if she had a bit of an upset stomach and this afternoon she died. She was only 3 1/2 years old. I held her in my arms and she talked softly in my ear until she drew her last breath. We did everything we could think of and it didn't help. Maybe the diagnostic lab can tell us what happened. We think the guy with the shrubbery field next to our pasture has been spraying again. We lost a doe two years ago because of that but couldn't prove it. In the meantime, my dear Trixie who gave me those beautiful triplet does in January is gone. However her granddaughter the Lil Macaroon (so named because she is the color of toasted coconut and has a tendency to get stuck in places....like the birth canal!) is a new beginning. I miss my girl but I am lucky to have three daughters and Macaroon. Maybe that will someday fill up the empty place I feel right now. Thanks for listening. I know you guys understand.
