I rarely have the time to sit and read post so just get to my e-mail and that is it most days but it is so hot here I thought I would read over the message board. Very interesting topic here. I am a LaMancha Breeder but have worked with or raised most breeds of goat. I am a bit biased on the topic of the best breed. LaManchas of course:-)
Here is an article I wrote on LaManchas:
Why LaManchas are a great breed:-)

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thought I would start by having a bit of fun.
First of all LaManchas are unique. There small ears are enough to catch any un-goated person's eyes and make conversation a must. There by promoting the dairy goat world.
Secondly they have wonderful loving personalities that make having at least one LaMancha a must. They trust you with their lives and love you no matter what.
Thirdly and most importantly they have (as a breed) better milk yields than Nubians. Making them more economical. They have higher butterfat then the Swiss breeds. Making better (or should I say the best) tasting milk. They are not an overly large breed so working with them is easier than with some of the larger more bull headed breeds. LaManchas mix very well with other breeds. But beware! They take over! I started with Nubians then got a LaMancha and now the rest as they say is history.
LaMancha bucks can be so sweet. Or they can be grumpy. Or plain old bored to the point of meanness. But as a rule if given plenty of room to live in they are the best bucks I have ever had to deal with. Our senior herd sire, Tombstone, and I have had our differences. But slip a collar over his head and he is the most behaved showmanship animal you have ever seen.
We eat our excess whethers and the does that have lost their usefulness(barring a few of course:-) They are a duel purpose breed with lots of will to milk but also the meat coverage to become useful even after their milk producing lives are over. A Boer buck crossed with LaMancha does had created the most beautiful meat carcasses I have ever seen. I would like to note that personally I would never breed a Boer buck to LaMancha does as the kids are to large for the LaMancha does to birth in my opinion. But the cross of Boer does to LaMancha bucks is a definite option for the goat meat eating population.
Hope this answers some of your questions.
