I only know that because I read it at the website, and also in the goat catalogs. "*This chart does not work for meat, hair, or miniature goats."
It must be because the ratio of heartgirth measurement to weight is different in different types of goats--pygmies are so stocky and square, for instance. I'm sure the weight tape works on dairy goats because "they" weighed so many thousands of them and measured the heart girth, and then developed this chart of inches vs weight. I'm new to goats and am only passing on what I've read, but I do read as much as possible:o)
