For some of you this may seem a no brainer but I am having a hard time making this decision. I am buying a Nubian doe, not the best looker, cannot show, but I want her for the milk. As I understand it she comes from good blood lines but being new I would not know. She is the fatter doe I mentioned earlier and they say she is sway backed because of it. She is 2 and has kidded her first time last year a buck.
Now my delimma I am thinking of asking them to breed her for me from their buck who is said to come from good lines. He looks it too. But we could breed her with our Alpine buck. I like the Alpines best I think but wanted to get Nubians because I like the taste of the milk better. I am considering stronger everyday having a small dairy. We could continue with more Nubians or we could have a Nubian/Alpine mix.
OR I could wait and breed her this time with my Alpine and next year go for it and buy a Nubian Buck. The problem of course is money and right now we do not go to shows.
How important is it that the milk be Nubian milk when making milk products and trying to run a dairy? I assumed because I like the milk better certainly the milk sells better? Are there sites you like that could help me with this?
I sure would appreciate your opinions. When we started I felt sure it was Alpines all the way but now I am not sure.
