This morning the babies seemed fine. walking around and playing, but mom would not get up on her own. I stood her up and that lasted about 2 minutes before she layed back down. She is still panting but growning a lot less. She also pooped while laying down. I have never seen her do that before. Is she just tired? Should I be worried? It doesnt feel right.

They are all a little crampy after delivery, the uterus is shrinking and her guts are moving back into their normal positions. She sounds like a normal doe after kidding really!

If she is in a small pen let her and the kids out for a little walk around the day after kidding. They all benefit from a bit of exercise.

Give the penicillin at 1 cc per 20 pounds twice a day by SQ injection for 5 days. Congrats!

Thank you!! I now have 2 beautiful babies. They were both head first and my mother goat and I have reached a whole new level of bonding. She has passed one placenta, but the other is still sticking. She is bleeding some. I have some peniccilin but amun sure about the dose. It says 1cc per 100 lbs not to exceed 4 days. Is this right? Thanks agian for all of the help. This web site is so informative.

I happened to have purchased a package of LONG plastic sleeve-gloves that go to my shoulder. I started with my thumb and 3 fingers pointed together to go slowly but firmly into the birth canal. If you don't feel body parts there, gently go further until you reach her cervix which could be as far as your elbow. Your being in there will also make her bear down and push.
Be sure someone is holding her head if she is standing up so that she can't pull away or thrash around and hurt herself or you. Once you're in, go slow, relax so she can relax between contractions. The most uncomfortable part for her is the first part of entering the birth canal so I don't go in and out just because I don't know what I'm feeling at first.

Go in and check! I just pulled a very large twin last night that I fully expected to be dead just from the difficulty passing through an incredibly small birth canal...BUT he is alive and well as is his sister who nearly fell out 15 min. later. Besides being large and a first baby for the mom, he had one leg back and one forward. We, (it took my daughter and I taking turns because of the tight squeeze) had to push the head and presenting leg back in to get ahold of the second SLIPPERY foot. Then we just worked with her contractions pulling forward and downward. We also worked with gently moving her external opening (vulva) over the kids brow when the nose seemed "stuck."
Good Luck.

It never hurts to check, I know I would. I would be concerned f this was one of my goats, I think I would have expected babies by now.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this, but I have a nubian/alpine that I am pretty sure is in full labor right now and I just want to be sure that it is not taking too long. She had a large string of opaque goop at around 8:45. I Have been sitting with her for 2 hrs and it seems like a bubble is trying to form and then disapears. The discharge is fairly clear with a white stripe. She gets up and lays back down alot and she grunts with almost every breath. Is this taking too long? Should I go in? I have never done it before but I want to take care of my goat the best I can. Please Help!!
