Check her teeth, many goats have maloclusions (poorly aligned teeth) and she could have one digging into her cheek or gum when she chews. Be very careful about putting your fingers very far back into her mouth. Those molars can easily remove your finger.

Often you can compare how the front teeth meet the dental pad to see if she lines up in the center and is neither under nor overshot. But she could have a very misaligned molar)or even a broken one) that is causing her pain only when she chews.

Perhaps your vet can lightly tranquilize her to have a good look and correct any problem she has.

I have a young doeling that has trouble eating solid food. She is doing fine on milk and her sister can eat perfectly fine. However she eats a little bit of grain or hay and then runs around like she hurts really bad. Has anyone had a situation like this? What did you do?
