Maggie, thank you for your response. The vet college is a great idea. I'll do some calling Monday morning and see what they have to say. And, no, she isn't pregnant so she won't be gaining any weight from that. The vet that suggested she be put down said the stifle was too high for a cast, but I hope he is wrong. She is in a small pen area right now and seems quite content. Thanks again for the suggestions.

Humans recover from this injury but most of the time this is with the aid of a brace or cast. Perhaps if the vet can cast the whole leg? You can also call a Veterinary College and consult with a large animal clinician there to see what your options may be. At this point you don't need to make a hasty decision, she has some time. The longer she goes the less her chances may be of making a recovery. And dragging her leg around will predispose it to injury and infection. It also places alot of added burden in her other rear leg and she may develop arthritis or founder in it.

Hopefully she is not pregnant?

I have a 5 yr old goat that I bottle fed as a baby. Needless to say she is a little special. She has a leg injury. The vet diagnosed her with a medial collateral ligament rupture. The injury is to her left back leg. She can not put weight on it, she just holds it straight out behind her. She does not seem to be in pain, is eating well and seems to be fine except for the leg. The vet suggested she be euthanized. That is the only option he is offering, but I am hoping there is a better solution.

Has anyone had any dealings with stifle joint injuries in your goat? I would appreciate any thoughts you might have that could be of some help. Thanks, in advance, for your time.
