Have you had a vet look at her? I do suppose her uterus could be partially prolapsed (this is much more serious than a simple vaginal prolapsed) and she either needs to have it replaced all the way back in or be euthanized.

It has been 8 days since she kidded and the swelling and prolapse is not getting better and i am unable to push it back in. How long can it be out like this? Could she still be swollen from a birth over a week ago? I do see one, I think its called a carbuncle from the uterus in the prolapse, and I do feel she is trying to give up on me. She is not eating or drinking anything on her own now.

He temperature is low, she may actually have milk fever (the temp is actually low with this condition, not a fever). You might try giving her CMPK gel or liquid 2 to 3 times a day. Milk fever (hypocalcemia) will cause a doe to lose their appetite. If you have Goat Nutridrench this may work in place of the CMPK. You can also give B Complex Injectable to help sooth her gut, promote good nerve function and encourage appetite.

I would gently push the prolapse in several times a day if that helps her urinate. DO NOT PUT IODINE ON THAT TENDER SKIN! Use the Preparation H or some other soothing antiseptic ointment or even just plain vaseline. Iodine will burn like the dickens and dry out that tender mucus membrane.

Her temperature is 100.7. I have her in her own pen with her own water so I can tell if she is drinking, which she is not as the bucket is always full. I do change the water everyday and she now has access to some grass outside but she is not interested. When I pushed on the prolapse today urine came out again, should I do this to help her urinate or is that just making thinks worse and I should just leave it alone? Should I apply iodine to the prolapse to try and keep it sanitized? Thank-you for all your help.

When she heals up and the internal vaginal swelling goes down the prolapse should correct itself. In the meantime try to keep it fairly clean and "lubricated" with a soothing sauve like Prep H. The retained placenta (if she has that) shouldn't be causing the prolapse. Are you sure she is not drinking? Goats will usually not eat if they aren't drinking some. But it doesn't hurt to drench with water and give her some Magic solution too.

What is her temperature?

The swelling has gone down a bit and now it seems she has vaginal prolapse of about 2-3 inches, I attempted to reinsert but it just comes back out. What can be done for this, should I just keep trying to put it back in? If her placenta is still retained would this be causing or making it worse? She is still not eating much and not drinking on her own.

Stop the yogurt for now or only give a tablespoon or so once a day. Milk products can upset the rumen microbes. Each tablespoon contains millions of the beneficial microbes and that is all that is needed.

There is no reason she can't just have blackberry leaves and branches and fir tree branches and anything else she seems to favor. Not eating grain is fine too, grain really isn't a "natural" goat food anyway. Mine especially favor pine needles when they aren't feeling well. If she is in a stall try to let her out in a pasture where there is some grazing or browsing. Goats need to be somewhat active to have an appetite. Goats that are locked in a stall just tend to lay there all day.

Apply the Preparation H 3 to 4 times a day. You might try giving an enema, with erh not drinking she may be constipated. But she may be pretty much pooped out having not eaten much either.

You can make up one of the electrolyte formulas on the articles page at http://www.goatworld.com/articles/potions/ and use that to rehydrate (you will still have to force it). And make up some Magic and give that too for energy. I have maintained a goat on these for several weeks while she recovered from a c section, peritonitis and a severe incisional infection. She is a happy pet today.

I applied the Preparation H twice last night, how often should I apply it? I also made her drink some water with a turkey baster, although I wore most of it. I am still force feeding her about 1/2 cup of plain yogurt a day and I got her to eat some fir tree branches and blackberry leaves. She will not eat grain or alfalfa. Is there any reason she should not be fed just fir tree branches and blackberry leaves right now?
I also attempted to force the swelling back in, it did not go, it appears most of the swelling is coming from the bottom part of the vaginal opening. When I applied pressure to the swelling urine came out, she has not pooped for 3 days now, but she has not eaten much either.

Try Preparation H. Smear it on liberally. Helps with pain and reduces swelling. She needs to drink, Drench her with water using a turkey baster if you have to. Dehydration makes matters much worse. She needs 1/2 to 1 gallon daily. It is possible the swelling is blocking her from urinating and defecating. Also sounds like she may have a prolapsed vagina or rectum. Stand her up and apply firm pressure to it to see if it will go back in. I have also heard of sprinkling sugar on the tissue to get it to shrink, this can't hurt to try. I do know the Preparation H works.

Stop the banamine it can cause digestive ulcers and this may be why she isn't eating.

I previously wrote concerning my doe that had a large kid pulled and became paralyzed, good news is she can walk now, though not for very long, bad news is she is severly swollen on the hind end and has refused food and water for 2 days now and really didnt eat very good the few days before. I have force fed her yogurt and try to get her to drink. She is so swollen that I think maybe she can't poop and possibly not urinate. She does not seem like she is in pain, her temp. is 102.3. I am still giving her Banamine twice a day to try to shrink the swelling. Is there anything else I can do to try to get the swelling down, it looks like her insides are trying to come out with a protrusion/swelling of about 3 inches.
