That won't cause the straining and him being down. He probably has mites or lice. Or it could be fly bites. Take care of his urinary problem then worry about external parasites. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

Maggie, I failed to mention in my previous post that I believe he has some kind of infection on his ear. It appears crusty (and just nasty!) could some type of sepsis be possible? |

He probably has urinary calculi. He sounds like he is in a good bit of discomfort. Contact a vet ASAP (tonight would be best if possible). If he is still passing some urine you can give ammonium chloride 2 teaspoons mixed with water to dissolve 2 to 3 times a day for a week or so until he is peeing freely again. Then give 1 teaspoon in water once a day for 2 to 3 weeks to hopefully dissolve the rest of the stones. If he can't pass urine at all he needs some sort of surgical intervention (snipping the urethral process might do it if the stone that is blocking him is lodged there). A vet can also put him on penicillin to help with any infectious process that may be going on in the injured urinary tract and banamine for pain and inflammation. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

I have a approx. 1 yr old billie fainting goat. I noticed as i went to feed today that he isn't eating, just laying down. He will get up and walk when i come near, but will immed. lay down with his head down when I leave. I thought he may be constipated (seems to be straining) but he is passing normal fecal matter. haven't noticed any urine though. no coughing, eyelids wnl, still very strong. the herd is staying away. any suggestions? |
