With his temp being normal and him acting better I wouldn't worry too much about teh coughing and snots. Keep a close eye on him.

I'm not familiar with the recovery process following pnuemonia and I am a little concerned about my guy. Saturday he had his last antibiotics, 7 days of LA200 plus Pen, that followed 3 nuflor injections...so about 11 days on antibiotics of some sort. I check his temp three times daily (or more) and it had remained normal for 72 hours so I felt comfortable taking him off antibiotics, they were doing a number on his poor gut, despite Probios twice daily. Well, his temp is still normal, he is eating better both grain and grass/brush, just not as much as normal. Drinking and peeing well. Berries are forming again. He is alert and seems happy. The problem is he is coughing more now and pale yellow/white snot comes out his nostrils occasionally. Is this a good sign? Is it breaking up in his lungs or should I be concerned? He didn't actually cough a lot at his worst so I am thinking this is better. I still give VetRx in each nostril several times daily. Should I consider Children's allergy med, but I know that will make him lethargic and not eat much? I would appreciate your thoughts on this based on your experience and knowledge. Thank you so much...he is sooo much better appearing...couldn't bear for him to have a setback.

Give it the same as you have been doing. LA 200 is long acting in other species, not so much in goats. Give a probiotic daily continuing for several days after the last antibiotics. So glad something is finally working! Hold off on the banamine.

Had to update, my buck came out to meet me this morning, nickering to me. Took his temp 102.6, the lowest yet in a week (last banamine yesterday morn, none today). He is alert and happy except when he gets his injections, fights me now...a good sign and makes me happy. Something is working (Nuflor/LA200/Pro Pen G). Question: He is on his third day of LA200 and pen G. Should I treat for 5 days? (He had a round of 3 Nuflor shots before starting these.) I know the LA200 is long acting now that he has it in his system. Should I skip tomorrow on the oxytet and still continue Pen and give one last injection of LA200 on Thursday with his fifth Pen injections? Should I continue longer? His poop is "cow patty loose". Don't want to overdo or underdo if I can help it. Thanks so much, Maggie!

Went out this morning and found him coughing and lethargic. His temp in cool of day was 106.1, no banamine in last 19 hours. My husband came in from night shift and I actually told him maybe we should just put the little guy down...hate to see him suffering. His third Nuflor injection was yesterday and no improvement at all. Eating less, drinking less. Well, last night I read archives on several goat boards and got some ideas...treat aggressively with what I have since it is Sunday and he might not last till Monday. I gave 3 cc. LA200, 3 cc. Pro Pen G, 1/2 cc banamine, nutridrench, probios, vetrx. He didn't even move when I stuck him, not looking very good. I finished chores, ate breakfast, showered and decided to check on him. He was out in his pasture, pulling grass like crazy, and drank two nice amounts while I watched. Sounds good but probably wouldn't last I thought. Went to church, said a lot of prayers for him too. When I got home, took his temp and it was 103.8 the lowest it has been since he got sick. I have a fan blowing across his pen, it is sooooo hot and humid here. He appreciates it and stays nearby. At 3 o'clock, his temp is 104.4 and I gave Pen again and also Vit B Complex(he actually pulled my husband over while holding him for injections, that strong). His tummy seems better, no more loose poop. Now, I know online folks say don't give both Oxytet and pen but I read several cases where nothing was working so both were used and the combo worked. My daughter, a recent vet graduate who knows nothing about goats, told me that the combo is used at their clinic in treatments of other animals and she told me to go for it also. Well, now he is eating browse and grass well, I'm holding back the pellets except for a taste, and he is drinking water. It sounds hopeful, doesn't it. I've always heard sometimes animals get better to die so I am not letting my guard down entirely but he is sooooo drastically improved just today. I can't believe that the Nuflor alone gave that kind of result, not after seeing how he was first thing this morning. Thought someone else who is desperate might want to hear my story in case they are in the same position. Actually, I had nothing to lose as it was. I'm sure he was on his way to a slow death, not eating or drinking in this heat. Also, God answers prayers!

I wouldn't worry too much about the loose poop right now, don't give anything. The brownish urine is probably just because it is concentrated. Are you giving B Complex? This might help with appetite, sooth his gut and will definitely help with nerve function.

New problem caused by his treatments, I am sure. This afternoon he has started having loose poop, not watery, just not formed but soft. Do I need to worry about treating this? I know if and when he responds to the other meds and is through with antibiotic treatment, the poop won't be a problem but in the mean time...Should I give pepto or is it better to do nothing? I'm still giving probios twice daily. I just walked him around my yard, he nibbles grasses and sweet gum sprouts, and oak leaves. He is slightly weak, stumbles sometimes but actually wanted to trot along with me. Noticed also when he peed there is a brownish tint to it...could the nutridrench give it that color? He hopefully is drinking enough because he urinated adequately...no blockages thank goodness. It is just sooo hot here. I feel for him. Yes, banamine is wonderful!

Thanks for the update. I will remember what you and the boer breeder said about the Nuflor for when someone asks again.

Banamine is amazing stuff...

Gave banamine again last night and within the hour he was up and eating leaves from a limb and nibbling hay. He swings from near death to looking almost normal. This morning I took his temp 11 hours since last Banamine shot and it was 105.3. (Low for him.) That seemed like an improvement to me. He also was moving around sluggishly but nibbling things. He is drinking and I also gave him an electrolyte drench...it is 96 degrees here outside and humid. Wish I could bring him inside in air conditioned house but that would probably only worsen things, I guess. I held off on the banamine and just gave motrin liquid at 8 this morning. Checked on him at 12 o'clock and he was lying in the sun (thought he was dead at first) with a temp of 106.7. I immediately got the banamine and his last nuflor injection (decided to stay the course with Nuflor) and gave them and moved him into a small pen in shady area. One hour later he is bright and perky looking and drank some electrolyte solution from a small pan for me. Nibbling hay and eating just a few pellets, but seems almost normal looking and moving otherwise. I am baffled. I talked to a boer breeder nearby and he told me to stick with Nuflor 'cause it took at least three days to see a difference. Looking back over my notes on a kid I treated before I see he turned the corner three days after his second injection. Maybe I am expecting too much too soon. But anyway he is no worse I guess and is holding on. Thank you again for your support and concern.
