We brought her inside because the flies were eating her alive and she seemed to have a lot of trouble breathing. It's pretty hot here and no wind. She lifts her head up every so often but no real interest in eating. Force feeding gatorade and milk. If she doesn't start eating the hay I'll start some oatmeal. We're going to take her temp again after dinner. Got some Naxcel earlier today. I hope she's going to make it-please keep her in your thoughts. Thanks for all the info.

Cindy, I don't know about the bio bolus... for coccidiosis, I use albon(same as mine uses on dogs) from vet or sulmet that your local feed store might have. Biosol is good for enteritis, that is at the feed store also probably. Cow doctors don't really grasp that cows are different from goats, though they both are ruminants. Watch carefully for another outbreak of lice...they can kill kids very fast. Does she show any interest in the hay at all?

Just called the vet about coccidiosis and he said I can give bio bolus. I looked it up on the net and it is for cows who have had too much feed or are freshening. Is this going to help my girl at all? He's a cow man, he's new to goats.

Thanks for the info. I just went home again and gave her 6 oz. of LiquiLytes kinda like pedialyte. She didn't get up but she did lift her head so...so far she is hanging on. Haven't given the Motrin yet I'll retake the temp when I get home and see how she is doing. I'll keep you posted.

Also forgot to mention about the severe diarrhea, she may be in the late stages of cocidiosis of which the damage is so severe that she will not survive. For treatment, use a sulfa drug such as Sulmet, Albon or Demethox.

I also would treat her with thiamin as I would treat a weak newborn. 1/4 cc Thiamin 250mg. IM for a 5-15lb newborn if weak at birth, then up to 2 times for 3 days if the kid continues to be weak. I personally do not like continously poking needles into the muscle tissue so I would be conservative about the repeat dosages or give them SQ.

My praises to you Cindy for doing such a humane thing, buying her and trying to turn her around. Sounds like you are doing a great job with the treatments.
As for antibiotics, I use Biomycin because one dose suppose to last 2 or 3 days whereas the basic PenG is a daily injectable. For respriatory distress, Nuflor suppose to be alot better. I know some goats difficult to find enough loose skin to raise for an easy SQ entry. I always try around the shoulder flank or just behind it.

In this case I might hold off on the Motrin for now because you may be at a point of overmedicating.

If the goat survives the Probios as Pam mentioned once a day.

I would on day 2 give another 1 cc of Ivomec orally and day 3, another 1cc SQ of B complex. She really sounds anemic from parasite overload and make take much time for recovery.
Please let us know if she makes it.

Cindy, you might want to try something better than biomycin or penicillin...nuflor or naxcel has worked successfully for me before. You must get this from a vet though. Also lactated ringers could be injected or given by drip under skin. Again you must get this from a vet. Just grasping at straws for you...Probios is needed too with giving her the antibiotics. This is easier to give than yogurt.

I'm not a medic but I would give electolytes, pedialyte, or something to hydrate her and replace what she is losing through the diarrhea. Good luck.

I forgot to say she probably doesn't weigh more than 10-15 pounds and I think 15 is really pushing it.

I'm so upset for this little doe. I felt really bad for her cause she looked horrible and was in a "little" pen all by herself so I purchased her yesterday to help her out and boy does she need help. She has water for poop-gave her some pepto (what I had on hand last night), she is loaded with lice-deloused her last night, I gave her 2 pumps of nutri drench and about 6 ounce of milk for dinner (all she would take and drank on her own) She is an 11 week old boer doe. She has fresh water and hay. She is completely dehydrated I found this morning when I went to feed her and she could barely stand up. Her head was all wobbly and she actual fell down. She has rumbles when she breaths and a temp of 104.6-gave her 1-1/2 cc pencillin,( would bio-mycin be better?)(no loose skin to give shots in, did my best) 2cc vitman B and I checked her eyes and they were just about pure white-gave her 2 1/2 cc ivomec by mouth and 2cc geritol. Force fed her maybe 4-5 oz this morning (half wound up on the ground so not really sure. Had to massage her throat for her to swallow. She just stood there for her shots didn't move at all, no noise or anything. I'll be surprised if she is alive at lunch and especially dinner. Her name is Gracey I'm thinking of changing it to Hope because I "hope" she makes it. I told her she went through hell but to hang in there cause now it'll be more like heaven if she can just hold on... Going to pick up some yogurt and gartorade tonight. Made sure she had a shaded area to lay. Anything else I can do that I'm not thinking of. I guess Motrin would help too - just read about the little buck with pneumonia.....Thanks!
