It is fine to switch to SQ, your doe will thank you for it. If you have banamine give her some of that 0.1 cc per 10 pounds by SQ injection. She may be pretty sore.

Thanks Maggie. This doe did get Bo-Se about 4 weeks ago. I'm planning to have the vet out some time this summer to draw blood on some animals and check selenium, copper and a few other things. If she gets worse, I may have the vet out sooner. I gave the first dose of penicillin IM -quicker for me - should I continue that route or is it OK to switch to SQ?

Retained placenta is usually due to selenium deficiency. In this heat it is going to smell bad. Give the penicillin 2 x day. Even if the placenta doesn't pass all the way it will dissolve and come out when she goes into heat. You can give lutalyse in about 2 weeks to help her clean out well.

I had a doe kid yesterday afternoon. She was a first timer, twin buck kids, both kids had a leg back and needed minimally invasive assistance for delivery.
Today, she still hasn't passed all the afterbirth. I tried to get a quick feel inside, but couldn't get my hand very far. There is a bad odor. Didn't get a temp, but she seems a bit "down." I gave her penicillin at 1cc/15lbs. Can't do anything more until tomorrow. Any suggestions or comments welcome.
