Sometimes they heal up but are a bit crooked. You will sure be able to tell which goat it is! I had a scur on a buck do that.

Thank you both for your help! She stopped bleeding, and seems to be ok, although her horn is cocked sideways. It just broke on the back side. It is still attached on the front, and I thought it was best to leave well enough alone. One of my local goat buddies told me I could either cut it off, and risk more bleeding, or leave it alone, and it would probably fall off on it's own. So far, so good! Thanks again! Mary Beth

If you have a very small cattle dehorner availiable, that will be useful! If you apply it to the live bleeding horn it will help cauterize the blood flow and though it is painful, you can save the goat from bleeding out. After this, you should give the goat Banamine to help with any pain. That can be boughten from a large animal veterinarian. I hope this helps for any future problems. It worked for us before! Good Luck!

We just went through the same thing. Our doe was still bleeding when we found her. The vet removed her horn and sewed the arterary (?) up. We have also been giving her LA 200 SQ to fight infection until it heals. Goats use their horns to expel heat and so have large amounts of blood in their horns. Any horn injury can be life threatening.

I JUST WENT OUT THIS MORNING AND FOUND A 4 MONTH OLD DOE WITH A HORN BROKEN AT THE BASE. SHE HAS BLOOD ALL OVER HER FACE, BUT IS NOT FREELY BLEEDING. IT DOES LOOK AS IF IT IS TRYING TO CLOT. THE HORN IS STILL ATTACHED, BUT IS TURNED SIDEWAYS. WHAT DO I DO FOR HER?
