It's so funny. We watch them run for leaves too when they fall. We crack up. That's the fastest you ever see them run! Thanks for reassuring me Maggie.

Our pasture has nearly no leaves on the ground compared to our yard. The does will watch for falling leaves and run to get them. Yep free goat food! Be careful about the type. Walnut may not be such a good idea in large quantity. Mine like hickory, poplar (this is the favorite!), sweetgum, maples, fresh pine needles, some oaks, ash.

LOL... So what happens when all of the leaves are gone for the winter?!?!? Do I have to listen to them cry all winter!!! LOL - I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't getting them into a bad habit. I guess I'll keep giving them to them. :-)

Goats LOVE leaves! They prefer them over hay and grass. They are good for them. Think of them as FREE goat food, I do!

Over the weekend we were cutting down some trees. My 3 nigerian dwarfs I think were excited because of all of the leaves rustling around. I gave them a branch from our walnut tree (only leaves on it, no actual walnuts). This isn't the first time that they have had them. Well, I think I made a mistake by giving them a little branch almost every time that I went out to their pen for almost 3 days. Now all they are doing is whining for the leaves! It's driving me crazy. Otherwise they are acting normal. No temp, they are eating hay, minerals, water and baking soda normally. I haven't given them any more leaves since Monday night. Is this normal for them to be acting this way? We give them treats here and there but I think I did this more regulary for too many days in a row. I feel guilty but don't want them to have any treats for a few days so we can break this habit. I guess I just wanted to make sure that this is normal. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
