Ok. We're doing our best to get them all vaccinated and given their vitamins and much as we can. I was also wondering, a few of them have their fur starting to look a little strange. It looks all dried out and fuzzy, kind of like a real hairy stuffed animal or something. Will this clear up with the vitamins and dewormer?

Anemia is most often caused by worms. Use Ivermectin injectable for Cattle, give it ORALLY at 1 cc per 25 pounds. Repeat the treatment in 2 weeks. DO NOT UNDERDOSE, this dewormer is very safe, you must be sure to give enough. Give B Complex by SQ injection once a day for a couple of weeks and I suppose you can give the iron pills but a multi vitamin solution like Goat Nutridrench, Redcell for horses or Geritol is much better. You might think about adding a grain feed formulated for goats to their diet. Start slow just a handful or 2 twice a day and increase the amount to the recommended amount over 2 weeks.

Get a good loose mineral one with 900 to 1800 ppm copper and 3000 to 4000 ppm zinc. Without adequate minerals especially copper your deworming and iron supplements won't do any good.

Ok,I checked the gums and eye lids and I'm hoping you were right and she is anemic. It wasn't a nice healthy-looking pink, but a whitish pink. Is this caused by worms or lack of feed? Their grazing has been down because of the drought so they all got pretty skinny, but they've had hay for about a month with no weight gain. Also, for the iron, do we have to buy the geritol or can I use some iron pills I've had for a while? They're prescription from my doctor from a while back. And how much of the dewormer do we use?

If it is soft be careful that it is not just a hematoma. Before lancing or trying to drain an abcess always use a #18 needle and aspirate fluid from the site. If it is blood leave it alone, it will reabsorb. If you cut it you may find yourself with a real bleeder.

I will check the gums and eyelids this afternoon after I get home from work. The swell feels like one of the CL lumps from before, but doesn't look quite like it. The CL lumps were huge, kind of like a golf ball was poking under the skin. This one looks more like there is just a swolen area. IT's real soft and squishy. If it does turn out to be anemia, can I give some prescription iron my doctor gave me for after I had my baby? It was for anemia and I have quite a few left over.

It is possible it could be CL but as you say that is not where you see them most often.
Check her inner eyelids and gums lety me know what color they are.
It could be bottle jaw but that is a soft swelling unlike CL you can almost reach around a CL lump but not bottle jaw.

A lump under the jaw could be bottle jaw, which is due to anemia. Check her lower eyelid to see if it's a healthy pink. If they are white, then she's anemic. She'll need an iron booster- like geritol (adult dose), a B-12 shot (I think it's 1cc/20lbs).

CL is caeseous lymphadenitis. From what I can understand it's a bacteria that gets into their lymph nodes (I think). It causes really big abcsesses on thier bodies and can get on thier internal organs too. They have no cure for it yet and I think they just came out with a vaccine but I don't know yet. It can be deadly if it gets on the organs. When you lance it the inside of it is filled with yellow puss (looks like cheese kind of). You can type in CL IN GOATS on yahoo.com and get a bunch of info on it.

We have a goat that I just noticed a lump on. We've just recently gotten rid of two goats that have CL so we're a little worried. It feels like the ones the others had, but it's on the bottom jaw under her front teeth. I know this isn't a normal site, but can it still be CL? And should we wait til the fur starts coming off to drain it, or just go ahead and do it?
