It can take a week or 2 typically. Keep giving the B until Wednesday. Should be no need to taper off, he should be back to producing his own by then.

Since he was symptomatic for about 2 days before you could start treating (maybe a bit more) the damage done was greater, complete healing will be slower. Each time a goat gets polio they permanently lose some brain tissue, some have lasting signs like a head tilt or partial loss of sight but most of these adapt quite well.

it never hurts to give the Fortified B Complex if a goat is a bit off. Mnay don't really display obvious signs, they are just a bit "off", less agile, have a strange look intheir eye, not with the herd. If giving an injection of thiamin brings them around quickly you know you are treating polio. Caught within hours of onset the goat can be back to near normal in an hour or less after the first injection. But once it has gone on for 6 hours to a day, getting them back is much harder. We got good at it with our wether Bricklin, if a vet (even our experienced goat vet) had seen him he wouldn't have seen anything wrong...

I think I'm through the worst of the polio but my little guy is by no means back to his normal self. Will this take some time? If so, typically how long? Come Wednesday I'll have given the fortified B complex for a week. I'm still currently giving 3 shots a day. Do I need to gradually reduce the amount or just stop completely on Wednesday? I think I'm becoming a pro and giving the shots! He harldy flinches when I give it to him now (poor little guy... I think I was getting his muscle when I was first doing it :-( ). After giving so many I don't feel as bad anymore either! LOL!!! I'm a baby about that. :-)
