When I was cleaning the goat pen this morning, I came across what I beleive was an aborted fetus. It was about an inch long. I am wondering about how far along she might have been. The fetus looked about like a tadpole, with 2 small nubs at the end, probably the begining of the formation of the back legs. I could clearly see what was the eye. I know there is no way of knowing why she might have aborted, But am wondering if there might be some tale-tale sign that would indicate which doe it was. I have 14 does that have been bred. I beleive it was one of the yearlings, And also wondering how long before she comes back into heat. Thanks for any info. Violet http://www.angelfire.com/vt2/hilltopacres/

Look for a little bloody discharge (could be a very small amount) on the tail or tail hairs. She was about a month or so along. She should cycle into heat in about a week but I would give her the first cycle to finish cleaning out then rebreed her. Most of the time these very early abortions aren't even detected, you just think the doe didn't catch and she is rebred. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic
