You can give the antitoxin tomorrow, but you probably don't have to really worry about it. Tetanus really is pretty rare.

When I disbud I spray the area with Furall or some such antibiotic spray. I know one goat keeper who likes to use Solarcaine for teh cooling and pain relief effects as well as it being antibiotic. Pretty much after that I just leave them alone and they heal up fine.

OK, I got the wrong stuff, will tomorrow be to late to find the antitoxin and give it to them. Should I put some thing on it like neospornin to protect the area from infection? Just tell me what to get and I'll get it and apply it.

You can give the B Complex SQ. I don't give unnecessary meds including B Complex. I don't think most kids need this at disbudding.

It is of little use to give the tetanus toxoid (which is the vaccine) at disbudding. First it takes 3 to 4 weeks to give protection. Second it only works if the goat has an active working immune system to produce protective antibodies. That is how a vaccine (Toxoid) works. It stimulates the immune system to produce antibodies that protect the goat from the specific disease giving a long lasting protection from that disease.

At disbudding you want to give Tetanus ANTITOXIN. This is essentially the antibody for tetanus. The kid then has immediate protection, although it is short lived only about 6 weeks. But that is long enough to protect from tetanus entering the disbudding site. If the kid's dam was current on her own tetanus vaccine it is likley the kid does not need the antitoxin. She passed antibodies for tetanus to the kid in the colostrum. Doesn't hurt to give the antitoxin though. You can give the injection right before or right after disbudding a few minutes doesn't matter.

Is It OK to give Vitamin B Complex Sub-Q to a 2 week old doe kid. And is it OK to give it right before or after disbudding. Do I give the Tetanus Toxoid right before or after disbudding?

I'm new to goats and these are my first kids born here on the farm. So I am very apprehensive about almost every thing that may cause pain to my kids.

Thanks For answering my question!!
