Candy, I would also read the page in the articles section on entertoximia, If you can get the CD antioxin, kids get 5-7cc under the skin. and some poly serum, 5cc under the skin, I would give him that. Also I would try to give him a little baking soda in water. http://www.angelfire.com/vt2/hilltopacres/

Candy, It sounds to me to be some kind of poisioning, but I don't beleive it was the ivomec. Ivomec is safe up to 50 times the recommended dose. I would try getting some milk of magniesia in him, and he is gonna need fluids if he is gonna survive. Poisoning is the only thing I have seen that will make a goat vomit. Has he had any access to any plants that are toxic? There are a couple good recipes for treating poisoning under goatworld articles, then antidotes. I will look for more info, and if I find something I will get back to you, or you can email me privately if you want. Violet http://www.angelfire.com/vt2/hilltopacres/

I forgot to mention, I haven't seen him urinate since 6:30 this morning, and haven't SEEN him have a bowel movement since around 12:00 P.M., and when he did it was soft or mushy, no form and had very bad odor to it. |

I was just out at the barn, where I have Moby, that's what I named him, and his mother, in a stall. He has not nursed at all today, and it seems what water he has drank, he has thrown up. He just threw up again. It is brown, thin, liquid and it smells horrible. He started gritting his teeth again just before he threw up. I've been crying for him all afternoon because I know he's hurting, but I don't know what to do for him. I'm afraid to give him anything orally because of the vomiting. Has anyone EVER seen a goat vomit? I've never even heard of it. But it's very sad, he is SO beautiful, I can't hardly stand to see him this way. |

I took him to the vet today. He thinks I overdosed him with Ivermectin. He weighs 35 pounds and I gave him 1 1/3 cc. He gave him some fluids by IV, but he had to sedate him with gas to do it and he threw up the whole time. I got him home a little while ago and he went straight for the water bucket, he's drinking constanly then he started throwing up again. I have NEVER seen a goat throw up. I'm so worried I'm going to loose him. I don't know what to do for him. |

I have not had an adverse reactions with our goats. I just got on the internet to see if anything has been reported. The only thing that I could find is that there may be a reaction at the injection site and that this occurs more with an 8 way vaccine- see the article in Goat World. If he is still in pain, I would talk to the vet about what to give him so that he is more comfortable. Ask if he could have some children's Motrin. I've used it for pain and it really did give the goat relief. Dosage is 1cc/ 10 lbs.- I would confirm the dosage with your vet. Is he eating yet? |

Candy, Hopefully Maggie will see this and be able to respond soon, but until then, I'll try to help. It's possible that he is having a reaction to the CD/T. You don't usually notice a reaction with the first time, that's when they become sensitized, then it's the second exposure that gives you the really bad reaction. If that's the case, you may not be able to give him this vaccination ever again. If you do, be certain you have epinephrine on hand in case he has an anaphylactic reaction. Is his breathing normal? if so, then I don't think Benadryl will help much. Could he be constipated? This can cause great pain and they will refuse to eat. If you think this is the problem, try a little warm water enema. (I keep Fleets baby enema on hand) Since he's urinating, he probably isn't too dehydrated, but he needs to nurse to prevent dehydration. If you have some electrolyte solution, try to get him to take some of that. Keep posting and let us know how he does. Keep posting as the day progresses. |

Have you ever had a kid have a reaction to the CD&T shot? He's just laying out there with his head propped up against the wall. I talked to a local vet, who like the rest of them know very little about goats. He said it's just reaction to shot, to give him benadryl. I have never had this happen. What do think about the Benadryl?} |

His stomach may be upset and this is why he won't eat . He's grinding his teeth because he is in pain. I don't know what to suggest about the cause for this and what to treat. Don't want to suggest the wrong thing. Since this has happened suddenly, I would think that he may have gotten into something. |

Hello everyone I need your advise badly. I have a buck kid born 12/13/05. He weighed 12 pounds at birth, he now weighs 35 pounds, very nice kid. Yesterday he got his first CD&T shot and Ivermectin. This morning went out to feed and he does not come eat. He's laying in goat house by himself. I went to him, he was laying down and he did not get up when I approached him as he usually would. I made him get up & he urinated a little bit, but he just stands, not nursing, his mothers bag looks like he hasn't nursed very well before this. I took his temp it's 102.2. He's chewing and kind of squeeking his teeth together. Anyone please tell me what you think. It's starting to rain here and he's just standing in the corner of their house with his face to the corner. Thanks Candy |
