I have been doctoring a 2 week old billy's eye since 2 days after he was born. His eye is cloudy, bloodshot, and has a growth of skin over it. I had originally thought it was injured after birth, but now the other eye is beginning to look bad, with a small piece of skin over a small portion of that eye also. I have been doctoring him with triple antibiotic eye salve for the past couple of weeks, and have started giving him Tylan 200 shots the past couple of days. Does anyone know what this might be? Does what I have described sound like his eye may be ulcerated? I thought about putting the Tylan 200 directly in his eye as an eyedrop, but it says to do this only if the eye is not ulcerated. Also, this is for pinkeye, which, I don't believe that that is his problem. This is a FB and would have made a great buck, but since he is having all these eye problems, I will be wethering him.

This is pinkeye. The best thing for pinkeye is oxytetracycline (LA 200 or Biomycin 200). Give 1 cc per 30 pounds (probably about 1/3 to 1/2 cc) by SQ injection once a day. I like to use a triple antibiotic eye ointment 2 to 3 times a day too. You can use the LA 200 directly in the eye but it stings, that's why I like to use the ointment. Tylan is not particularly effective against pinkeye, many people confuse Tylan 200 with LA 200, but they are different drugs. It could well be that the Tylan is interfering with the oxytet (most triple antibiotic ointments have oxytet in them as one of the ingredients) in the ointment. Try switching to LA 200, I have always had very good success with that when treating pinkeye.
