I have the start of pinkeye in my herd. I am cleaning eyes with warm water and applying Terramycin ointment to the affected eyes. I know it is highly contagious and am trying to be careful. I read in some of my goat info to squirt penicillin directly into the affected eye. Can I use Pro Pen G to do this? That is all I have or should the ointment clear it up alone? I think I have caught it early and want to do everything properly. Thanks so much!

The terramycin ointment has oxytetracycline and it counteracts penicillin. Do not use the 2 together. I would start giving oxytetracycline injections (LA 200 or Biomycin 200) once a day be SQ injection at 1 cc per 30 pounds. This has always worked very well for me. The opintment will clear it up eventually but adding LA 200 injections seems to really help. It is actually excreted in the tears so medication is going to the eyes 24/7.

I had a doe last year that had pinkeye in both her eyes and could not see the end of her nose she had it so bad and she had it about 2 days before I knew what it was heard about the terramycin and started putting it in both of her eyes and about a week and half she started doing better by end of 2 weeks could see great everything was back to normal. Took work to keep her fed and lock up for that long but it was worth it. good luck
