The dose for sheep is the same for cattle and horses. The dose for goats would be about 2 to 3 times more by weight. So yes she needs more. Basicially you would need to redose her at the right level, you can't just add what you didn't give. This is why I like to use the injectable for drenching. It is much more concentrated so you give a smaller dose. If you order it from Jeffers or Valley Vet you can get the generic injectable for about 25.00 to 30.00 a bottle. Order enough and get free shipping.... Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

If using the Ivomec Injectable for cattle the dose is 1 cc per 25 pounds. If using the pour on for cattle but giving it orally it is 1 cc per 5 pounds. Generally the rule for using ivermectin is 3 times the cattle or horse dose by weight. Here is the formula for figuring weight: measure in inches the heartgirth and the length of body from the point of the shoulder at the front of the chest to the pinbones (base of the tail). Then multiply heartgirth x hearthgirth x length of body and divide that number by 300 for the weight in pounds. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

I used ivomec 20cc. She is pregnant and we are going to measure tomorrow to get exact weight. I couldn't find the calculation guide we used last time but we estimated she weighs about 160, she's approx. 2-2 1/2 years old, possible twins with the way she is carrying. (does anyone have the calculation handy?) We've put her by herself until she gets her strength back. Will probably move some company in with her tomorrow (smaller gentler doe). I'll check the website for the article on copper. Thanks for all the info! Cindy

I use a beef cattle mineral with 1550 ppm copper. I think most of the high magnesium beef cattle minerals have higher copper in them too. If she is deficient likely the other goats are too. The Saanendoah website at www.saanendoah.com has a very good article about copper deficiency. Worms don't always change the feces especially in adult goats. I seldom have a goat with diarrhea but on checking fecal samples and looking for signs of anemia by checking the lower inner eyelid I always seem to have a few with a high worm count (same ones too, natural resistance is an inherited trait). What did you use to deworm and how much did you give? Many dewormers are not very effective and alot of them need to be given at much higher doses than recommended for other species to be effective for goats. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

Hi, yes low copper will make them weak as well as having a rough coat with color fading. Copper is a natural wormer to. Barbara Howard jamesa@mrtc.com 606-522-3388 KY

Barbara, Thanks for your reply-almost didn't see it there nothing came across on my email like it usually does. Do you know if copper deficiency can cause weekness too? She's just kinda slow and not putting up much of a fight-not as much as I would expect normally. Thanks! Cindy

Put a call into the vet -he said it sounded like she was anemic and to deworm her asap. Went home on lunch and did so. The fecal samples look normal-don't worms change the consistency? I'm just hoping we are treating her for the right thing. I know wormer her can't hurt but I want to make sure she isn't in need of something else. Is a blood test the only way to tell. Her babies are probably going to be due in march. Any help would be great. thanks! Cindy

Have a reddish/brown pregnant doe. Her face is turning pale, almost white. Rest of body looks fine. She just doesn't seem right. Other does seem to be bullying her around more like they know she doesn't feel good, even the more shy ones. I remember reading something about loss of color and can't remember what it is their diet is lacking, copper? Do you think anything else could be wrong? Yesterday I saw her standing with her front leg together (normally like all the rest) but her back legs were really spread quite far apart and not sure but it think she kind of tripped (realted or not, I don't know. She seems scared when any does come near her and I went to pet her and she continually moved away so I know something is wrong, she used to be the only one we could pet...please help! Cindy
