New goat owner with a goat that has a bloody, mucousy vaginal discharge. - I brought home my first goat on Wed and noticed her tail was pretty dirty and matted. The next day I noticed it was pretty bad and there was a discharge. The seller said she is a yearling and would not have been pregnant. I have never seen a goat in heat, so I'm not sure if that's what it is and I am over reacting. She seems perfectly happy otherwise - eating, playing. I wondered if I picked her up wrong when I got her in and out of my truck. Also - being the Nubian that she is and desparate to be near me, she jumped a fence and landed really badly - I thought a wound - but I see the discahrge coming out of her. So now I'm thinking she was early on in pregancy and aborted. Is there anything I shhould do? The discharge is almost completely gone, but I thought I would ask the vet to come out. Not sure if this is an emergency... I really am clueless and VERY new to the goat world so any answers would be appreciated. (picture attached - some of this is bedding)

This sounds like it could be normal discharge they have from being in heat. it starts out kinda clear but could have a bit of blood, then turns white or yellow and gets very thick. It can really goop up their tail. Make note of the date and see if it happens again in about 3 weeks.

Thanks, Maggie
I seem to have posted the question again by accident. Apologies.

This was reather bloody discharge. 2 other goat owners told me that there isn't nearly this much discharge when they're in heat - so I was concerned.

Any reason I should keep the new arrival (yesterday) away from this goat if it WAS an aborted kid?

Thanks!

SInce teh discharge was quite bloody then I would say she has or is in the process of aborting. I would keep her separated from all other pregnant does until the discharge stops in case it is from an infectious cause, like chlamydia.

If possible you should isolate all new arrivals to your farm for a couple of weeks. This gives you a chance to stop things like Pinkeye, pneumonia, CL and other diseases from spreading from the new goats to your herd.
