I use either hoof nippers, lopping shears or saw wire. Be prepared for the scur to snap off when you grab it and she jerks. Actually this is often the best outcome, the scur comes off close to the skull and grows back much more slowly. it is especially prone to do this if it wiggles some. If it is good and solid she may well feel it more and it may bleed more. Keep the blood stop powder close by, and I like to heat up the disbudding iron too in case there is alot of bleeding you can cauterize it and stop it faster. Be sure you have her well restrained, preferably in a sturdy head gate. If she is up to date on her CDT she doesn't need another but if she is due soon it won't hurt.

what is the best way to nip scurs by a hand saw? or using horse nippers? should I also use blood stop? and cd&t booster. This is an older alpine doe that I have and her scur is curled around to her skull so I need to do it soon before it touches. Thanks Linda
