now the kid is not wanting to eat at all she doesn't want any thing to do with the bottle. If the bottle is cool they want eat it. IT has to be warm to hot |

Make sure the formula is very warm, sit on the ground with the kid to feed her. Make sure the milk flows out of the nipple well but not so much she chokes. Lots of babies do this you may have to hang around wait a minute or 2 and feed her again. She really knows that the bottle isn't quite right, but she will learn. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

That sounds about right. I would feed every 30 minutes or so for at least the first 8 hours. If the doe doesn't want to take care of it you may want to bring it inside overnight. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

I got it starting to suck it does for about 10seconds at a time. so I should go down there about every hour to feed or just whenever like every 20 min. The mom is all right Still giveing her the b1. does the kids take the b vitamins out of her. |

You have to teach them to take a bottle. First be sure the formula is very warm. Hold the kid in your lap, the bottle in your right hand. Wrap your right arm around the kid holding it close to your body. Open the mouth with your left thumb, put the nipple in. Hold the nipple in the mouth and the mouth closed with your right hand. Sometimes covering the kids eyes lightly with your left hand will help, sometimes if you reach around and kind of tickle the kids tail (like mom nuzzling the kid) will help the kid to start suckling. Newborns only take a few sucks each time but they do it every 10 minutes or so. Most of my kids take about 8 to 10 ounces the first day. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

Directions are given on the package. For pygmies try giving half what it says as most goat related directions are for standard sized goats. If the doe has milk you might be able to hold the kid to the teat and let her nurse. The doe's colostrum is best. After that there is a good recipe for homemade milk replacer on the Goat world articles page. Use that to feed the kid after giving colostrum for the first 24 hours. I feed newborns every hour for the first 2 days then if they are doing well you can feed 4 to 5 times a day, giving all they want each time. At a week old you can go to 3 to 4 times a day, all they want up to 3 weeks old. At 3-10 weeks old you can feed 3 times a day, being sure they have access to hay. After they are about 5 weeks old I don't feed them quite all they want, I leave them a bit hungry to encourage them to eat solid food. I try to be sure they can get to grain twice a day without having to compete with the older goats. My orphaned kids live with the herd and learn from the older goats from the time they are a few days old. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic
