Would Albon work in place of sulmet? I am in the sticks and have albon here. This is a tiny pygmy probably not over 2 lb. if that. |

Instead of using Pen if this is instestinal I would use Sulmet 1cc/5 lbs day one and 1cc/10 lbs days 2-5 orally once a day that will get cocci and use Biosol with that the same dose orally for 2-3 days. Go ahead and continue Pepto twice a day. Barbara Howard jamesa@mrtc.com 606-522-3388 KY

In reading some literature I have, it says don't use LA200 on nursing kids...something about oxytetracyline being counteracted by milk. I gave her 3/4 cc of Pro Pen G this morning (and will twice per day for 5 to 7 days if necessary) and Biosol. I know you can't use both pen and LA 200 or switch between but pen seemed to be the right choice to me. Seems to be something intestinal going on...notice tinge of blood in her still pasty white poop. Gave probios also. She is inside under light since we have damp 50 degree weather with no sun and lots of wind today. She is still nursing and seems alert. Stopped shivering when I put her under light and is resting. I intend on bringing mom inside to her to nurse till this weather straightens out. Does this sound reasonable? |

I might be tempted to try treating for joint or navel ill even if her joints or navel aren't swollen. Some kids just don't get enough colsotrum and get a low grade infection and just act dumpy and not quite right. But they all seem to respond to oxytetracycline (LA 200, Biomycin 220 or Agrimycin 200) give 1 cc per 30 pounds once a day for 10 full days by SQ injection. I have seen this turn a kid around in 2 days or less. Can't hurt to try it. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

Thanks for the information. No, she is the smaller, rather scrawny looking one. You can tell she is eating but she isn't filling out like her brother nor frisky like her brother, no hopping or skipping, only an occasional bounce. She mostly stands and looks pitiful. She is pooping and eating though. She is the first doeling this doe has had in 3 kiddings so she is very special and quite adorable. |

Biosol will work fine, give according to the directions for piglets. But she probably ate way more than her usually being shut in with mom for 24 hours. Sounds like she gets the lion's share. You might also give probiotics. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

She is nursing, not with a whole lot of gusto but sufficiently. I gave the Benadryl after I noticed her moping around like she didn't feel too well. She has a little snuffy nose. I don't have scour halt but do have Biosol. Would that help? How much? I don't think she would have pigged out yesterday but then we had tornado watches and warnings all day and I had her shut in with mama and brother all day and night. Her poop actually hasn't looked just right since birth. It was pale yellow at first, not dark. |

Benadryl can cause drowsiness (just like in people). Her temp may be a bit low, most kids are around 102 to 102.5. Try some scour halt in case she is coming down with salmonella or e coli. It could be she was just a bit of a pig yesterday and ate too much though. This will sometimes cause pale pasty poop. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

Does she eat enough milk? I have had these kinds of feces but they always act good unless they become constipated or scour. Barbara Howard jamesa@mrtc.com 606-522-3388 KY

I have a 6 day old doeling with pale, almost white poop, rather pasty. Her brother has the typical mustard color. She isn't too perky like her brother. She has had bo-se shot, some children's benadryl for snuffy nose, and some nutridrench. She still eats but something just isn't right. Her temp is 101.5 |
