Sulfur, Agricultural Sulfur is used as a feed and mineral supplement to goats and other classes of livestock. The primary use is for external parasite control such as ticks and mites. However, certain research shows that a diet with small amounts of sulfur may be beneficial in other ways as well. As recommended for any feed additive or supplement, you should consult a licensed veterinarian before administering this product! A number of inquiries have been made regarding the texture and other uses of this sulfur. This is Agricultural Feed Grade Sulfur which is the correct grade for inclusion in various feed mixes. The sulfur itself is of a granular nature, not a very fine powder. It is very similar in texture to table salt. I have a number of customers who do use this sulfur for gardening. It is important to understand both the advantages and disadvantages of including amounts of sulfur in your livestock diet. It is important because it’s presence in the diet is necessary when non-protein-nitrogen (urea, ammonium products) are being fed as a source of protein. Most feeds in the Pacific Northwest are naturally low in sulfur. Some livestock feeds contain high amounts of sulfur. Distiller grains are one such example. Water sources also can contribute to amounts of sulfur. Some water sources, particularly wells, often contain higher amounts of sulfur than usual. Factors such as these must be taken into account. There has also been research that shows sulfur and selenium interact with each other; high sulfur, low selenium. Excess sulfur can cause loss of appetite, diarrhea, and poor performance. As with any vitamin or mineral, it is a good idea to know what type of soil, water and growing conditions exist in your location before making a radical change in diet.
