didn't dehorn in time

Posted by Kali on March 24, 2001 at 17:57:23:

Well, my babies are now 2 weeks old and they are not dehorned! I thought that they were all going for meat so didn't do it (was way too overwhelmed that 1st week-happily so!-and didn't understand that it needed to be done NOW) but my son is indeed wanting to keep one to train to a cart even though I've tried persuading him to get a young doe instead. So now I need to figure out what to do with a goat's horns at this age...should I have a vet do it? Also, does anyone have an opinion about keeping a wethered goat for pulling? Will he be more difficult then the does to keep out of the orchard and aggressive at all as he gets older? He's as sweet as can be at this point. Thanks! I hadn't checked the board in over a week and can't believe all the great questions and info posted since then!
