We have our males next to the girls, yes they tease them, and the boys argue about it, and the boys keep their tops of their heads all rubbed clear of hair, and bloody from the arguing and trying to get to the females. And the males have broken through a couple of pretty strong gates too. When I keep something between them like a buck mat, they still argue, but it is a little less, as the girls are still right there teasing and calling them. You sure can tell who is coming into heat. We are in the process of making a barn, in a different area, so the boys will be freer to relax. Yes, I would definitely keep a wether with him. I never let them stay alone, even if they are staying at the vet hospital, unless they are very down, then I visit all of the time and keep mirrors in with them. It sure works!
