Yep you can pick up some good stuff at the local auction barn. How about CL, CAE, Johnes, Chlymidia, Mastitis, a doe who kills her kids when they are born, pawing them into the bedding, a doe who refuses to allow her kids to nurse, a doe with no milk, a buck who is sterile, that big ole 200 pound 2 year old who is that big because she won't settle and has never kidded. Or where you talking about goats?

It's not that you can't find some good buys at auctions, or better, the boer goat folks put together sales. A new sale barn over by Austin, TX will have dairy and boer, all penned separatly with health papers and the owner of this facility sifting through the stock, for sickness. The problem with the good buys at the auction barns is that you have to have some experience in what you are really seeing, and also how to deal with the stock once you get it home, certainly neither things newbies can do alone. I have folks who walk away and chuckle at my Nubian prices, certainly if you even take my time, let alone breeding, feed, management and my barn, even at 500$ for a milker it is less than minimum wage!
