I've got a pygmy doe who kidded in mid October with a rough delivery (my first difficult one in many years). Shortly following that, she appeared to have trouble urinating. I treated her with antibiotics (penicillin) for 10 days, and she got better. However, now (3 months later), she's doing it again...and this morning was straining terribly and in obvious pain, with nothing but dribbles coming. I'm trying to catch some urine to take in and be cultured, but so far no luck. When speaking with my vet on the phone today, she thinks maybe a recurring urinary tract infection, or urine is somehow "pooling" back into the cervix, causing uterine infection, or perhaps its developed into a kidney infection now. We are going to try and scope her in the clinic the first part of the week to learn more. But until then... any ideas? Anybody have this happen with a postpartum doe? It's a new one for me. She's back on penicillin (my vet's antibiotic of choice), but I'm wondering if BioMycin might be better to try this time. Thanks for your thoughts.. :)patty
