In Reply to: Lacerated Teat - how do I wrap it?!!! posted by Nat on April 28, 2001 at 19:21:49:

Thanks everyone! The vet wrap ended up sliding off, but my gauze "stuck" on well. I used some medical tape, and it seems to be working.. I just feel bad pulling the band-aid off a hairy udder.... ouch... And Vicki - I heard about the superglue before! was it you that mentioned having a clipper accident at a show - and trying this?!! Great idea!

I didn't start her on antibiotics (I know this sounds horrible) because she is getting shipped to the auction, and you can't send a treated animal in. It got cleaned out well, and she's in a well bedded pen, had teatnus a short while back so I'm not too worried about the wound. Looks and sounds worse then it is (but it still has to hurt). At this point I'm going to stop milking- I was in the process of drying her off anyway and being a poor milker, she isn't bagging up that much. Thank god my 10lb milker didn't get hurt.. ugh...that would have been a real huge disaster!

Another lesson in management, housekeeping, and now keep and cull. She was on the list to go anyway, just too bad she got hurt like this. Just a reminder for everyone to check feeders, ect for sharp spots this time of year.

Thanks again, you guys are great!
