Okay, I've got a question that hopefully someone can shed some light on because it's been bugging me for awhile.
I've got a little sweetheart doe, 1/2 FB Boer and 1/2 FB Nubian that is a twin and 5 months old. She looks like a Boer, has all the Boer markings like her dad and everything else. She does have four teats which I guess is the Nubian influence. Her twin brother is pretty much the same - even he has two teats. The problem (or presumed problem) I'm having with this one is that she seems stunted and lethargic acting. Her brother is now twice her size and has horns that extend at least 6 inches. The does horns on the other hand are probably only an inch at most, almost as if she was going to be naturally polled. Both ehr and her brother are not real fast movers but she is noticeably slow all the time. Kind of a "I'll get there when I get there" personality about her. Never runs to the feed - always walks.
From birth on she seemed a bit sluggish but made it through. She eats well daily, she doesn't appear thin or frail but she just is not getting big very fast. Her nanny is a pretty good sized goat and her dad is around 300 pounds at least - the classic Boer. But not her. I've given her extra treats, plenty of supplements and everything else but no gain.
Some of the other doe/buck twins we've had never displayed this. I'm not sure if she is just a slow grower or what but I guess like any concerned breeder I'm worried about her. She is such a little sweety. She never runs from us, comes right up to us, just a super nice disposition.
Any ideas?
Best regards,
Gary Pfalzbot
