Leah:
First of all I am with you, I do not believe in the medicated feed and do not like giving meds period unless I absolutly have to. Then I like to stick with the sulfa drugs if I possibly can (thanx to goat mom's suggestion (smile). Anyway, the medicated feed is not going to cure cocci it is only used as a prevention, and I would go ahead and treat them for the stress using a sulfa drug for 5 days instead of the medicated feed. Also worm them as well with a wormer that works in your area.
We buy a big bag of goat chow, at our Co-Op and use their brand. We pay $6.00 per bag for it, plus we have been giving cracked corn in between (the goat chow has corn in it as well) and now for the winter we give them extra hay as well. I know our Co-Op has both reg feed and the medicated that is their brand. I also think and I am not sure, so I hope someone else can answer this that there is an ingredient you have to check for in the goat chow to make sure it is not there. I remember reading it a while back on the board and checking our bags and it did not have it so nothing to worry about. Now I forgot what it was.I also know many who mix their own feeds as well and I am sure there are several on this board who do, and they may be able to help you with that if you are interested.
