Hi goatmom sounds like we will maybe getting snow here soon too:( I'll try to help you with the cd in the cd&t shot is. If I'm wrong somebody please correct me. We give CD&T shots in the last 4 weeks of gestation to pregnant does and the day they kid, then we also give the kids a shot at 30 days and follow up with another at 60 days to help prevent entrotoxemia. The letters C&D are types of clostidium perfringens type D lives in the soil and in the digestive tract. Type C has a lower number that lives in the digestive tract. If multiplies slowly it has no sign or problems such as gas or toxin, but if a happens to consume large amount of feed then more undigested starch passes into the intestines allowing C. perfringens to multiply rapidly and cause a deadly toxin, this toxin gets into the blood stream causing brain injury, toxemia, shock and probable death. So basically Type C&D is just a form of bacteria. Thats how I understand it and the vaccine helps to keep the everything in balance not to say it will never happen but I figure that is what the vaccine is for. I hope I didn't ramble too much and that it did clear up some things.
