Ah Gary I am sorry. He is approx 9 months old and is supposedly a pure bred boer. He looks pure, we have Nick's other 2 brothers Billy Jack and Billy Bob (don't laugh) (he was one of triplets) and the wether looks exactly like both Billy's. He was sort of a sympathy or rescue type purchase on my husband's part. We normally put our whethers out at a friend of my husband's pasture. More for me, so I do not get attached. His friend has pastures and welcomes the goats there to clear it for him. But this one is kind of young so we decided to hang on to him here a little while until he got a little bigger.

I should have probably added that when we got him we noticed that whoever fixed him, well, he was banded. We normally do not band our goats, we take them to the vet for $5.00 and have them neuter them, quick and easy and atleast we know it is being done properly. Anyway the area looked a little like he was not being taken care of properly so we cleaned the area good with iodine and kept an eye for infection, constantly cleaning it, which there was no infection. So maybe the way he is acting has something to do with the banding not being done properly?? We have never felt comfortable with the banding thing, so I do not know much about it.

Anyway, we have had him several weeks, he never was runney around and playee type..He was not bottle fed nor human raised so he was a little skittish, which after about 3 or 4 days of the way he saw we treated our other goats changed. He would let us go up to him and pet him, and hand feed him etc. We kept him seperated from the rest of the herd until his Cocci prevention was done, and his worming was complete.

But he does seem a little quieter than he was when we first got him. I don't know how to explain it. For instance, my husband went out to the barn this morning, and he saw the little guy laying there..and he was pooping where he layed, you know what I mean..almost like he could not get up, or did not want to get up is more like it. He can walk fine, but he does so w/his head down like he is majorly depressed or something.

So maybe this does have something to do with how he was banded? I know it can be done incorrectly and there could be complications..I just dont see those complications comming several weeks down the road or am I wrong?

We had other whethers, and they were very active and had attitude. These were boer/spanish mixes.
