Hi Helene,

Panacur and Safe-Guard are apparently the same chemical compound (Fenbendazole)and according to a chart that is posted in the Goats & Health section, this is effective on Lungworms.

Here is the chart:

While it is stated that it is effective on lungworms, again the question of whether or not the worms in your area have built up a resistance to this particular wormer. In our area, Safe-Guard is not nearly as effective as it used to be - at least on this herd we've got. And to be honest about it, alot of people say that it is the "area" when it may be the goats physiological system itself that creates an immunity for the worms.

I seem to remember that a few of the goats we purchased, they were coughing and had lungworms. I gave them each an appropriate dose of Safe-Guard and no more worms, no more coughing. I gave Safe-Guard to some of our goats that we've had over a year and they still showed worminess and coughed - out came the Cydectin.

So in reality, I think there is a fine balance between region and the newness of a goat into a herd.

Best regards,

Gary
