Yesterday I got a call from a friend that bought a pair of Nigerians from me. One was in hard labor and not producing anything. I hated to go, I feel unqualified, and help but beings it was a Saturday afternoon and no vet is readily available I went. She was gloved up and said she hadn't yet felt inside. I said go ahead. She thought she felt a nose. I went ahead and felt and I felt bones. I couldn't tell which was what, to make a long story short, the baby was presenting like a Thanksgiving Turkey. Breast up, legs back, head back. He was trying to come out chest first. We finally delivered him with his head bent back. He did not survive, but two more a buck and a doe came out just fine and dandy and mama seems to be fine too. I felt bad about losing the little guy and keep second guessing how I went about delivering but after talking to a couple of friends here, Karen included, we kind of decided there was nothing else to be done, especially because I couldn't figure out what was presenting! I really am thankful to have that one under my belt and hope never to have it happen again!
Just had to get that one off my chest! Dalice
