Hi folks,

A few updates for everyone - Marys kids. Well, I guess I won't have to worry about what to name the other twin, it died two nights ago during our -4 degree weather bout. I really don't think that it was illness related; I think it was just too cold and Mary, trying to keep both babies warm, squashed the poor guy flat. I had a heatlamp in the shelter with them but alot of good that does when it is -4, the wind is howling like a proverbial banshee, and there is ice on the ground. I am definitely going to get my act together and get a full-fledged barn built this year. We've lost too many to the weather. Ducks and chickens too. But I don't feel as bad as I should because alot of folks around here have been losing animals left and right due to the weather and they have barns. When it is nearly 75 one day and -4 a couple of days later, things like this are going to happen.

The good news on the other hand is that another doe named Faun just gave birth yesterday to two little does. One looks almost like her and the other is a chocolate color with the faint black line running straight down the middle of her back. She is a bit bigger than her sister. Both kids were doing well at last check.

And another surprise this morning. One of our Cheviot sheep gave birth to a little lamb (ewe). You can imagine my surprise when I heard a different kind of bleat coming from one of the pens. I brought her into the house to show my wife who was still half asleep and she thought it was another goat kid. Then I showed her the tail.

I know I keep saying I am going to get pictures and post them - please be patient with me. I have been running at full speed the last few days since Mr. Barnhart passed away. He had a really nice funeral by the way. I couldn't believe the number of people that showed up - close to 500. Overall, his family is taking it well and getting on with the business at hand. I think he would have wanted it that way.

Well, til' next time...

Best regards,

Gary
