Hi all,
I went on a trip today with a friend to goat dairy in Indiana. Has anyone heard of Shipshewana? It is an Amish community, big one, with all the fun that goes with it. We were doing good made it down to the goat dairy good. This guy is young, has a huge dairy, milks over 100 does. He has 120 acre farm. He was feeding lots of kid when we arrived this morning. He has everything a goat lover could imagine, every breed, shape, color, size, etc. I picked his brain about treatments for pinkeye, mastitis, etc.
We then went to a vet clinic that sells stuff like from Jeffers over the counter. We saved money on some stuff there. THen we went to an Amish cheese factory to buy some yummy cheeses. Then after tasting all the kinds we could, like horseradish, onion, etc. we left to go to one more goat stop on the way home. We were making good time and were happy with all our bargains. I left the cheese factory parking lot and thought, boy this road is rough. Then after a minute I realized this isn't the road its a tire. I had a flat. I pulled into a parking lot. I am not good at mechanical stuff and we strugged to figure out how to get the spare off and jack up the van. We are in the heart of Amish land and some nice Amish guys stopped to help. They know as much about changing a tire as I do as harnessing a horse. They tried and we tried to coach them without being judgemental. Bless their hearts they were being good samaritans, but to make a long story short our nuts on the tire were getting stripped so we had to call a garage to come and change the tire. It cost 45.00 and took them at least 45 minutes to come. That blew my time frame and budget so we put our tail between our legs and came home. What a day. My friend did get a nice Nubian buckling and 50 o/o boer buckling so all was not lost. Dalice
