Nancy I have a lamb that is doing this very same thing. Our lambs are pasture animals so after day 2 you can't catch them, we thought she had broken her leg at the joint and once it healed she would be ok. WE were wronge! She got very lame and I was able to catch her up. My husband was home and looked her over she has a major foot abcess, it is nasty!!! Anyway him being a farrier right now is a good thing, except I have to clean out the abcess : ( >> ... the back of the affected foot looked scaley so he picked it off and found the hole. Now we are soaking it in epsome salt to draw out the infection. He said if you don't drain it than it can get into the blood stream and make the animal very sick. Hope this helps you.
