A hot spot is an iritated sore on an animal. Normally dogs and most offten by the tail, sometimes on the front legs and between the toes. The start out as small itchy areas from some sort of iritant and quickly grow into very large messy "hot spots" They look like a burn and if left untreated can get very infected and nasty. Sometimes the animal will even have to be sedated to have it cleaned up. Normally the vet/tech will clip the area, cleans with a betidine soultion, and dry. Then the animal gets a shot of fast acting coritson and gets sent home on Prednison or Predisalone (same drug differant company). The trick is to keep the animal from messing with it after it has been cleaned up. Also it can happen with all dogs but seems to happen more with dogs that have long hair. Also sometimes being bored can be a contributing factor, at least when the front feet and legs are the problem area. Hope this helps.
