You should be very proud of him it's not often kids will do anything other than watch tv or play on the computer anymore. We try to limit the tv and comp for our boys. They do help with the goats outside but after that there isn't much they can help with chore wise. We moves some sheep into the barn so to get to the chickens you have to go through the pen. This is not safe for an adult really a couple of the Jacob ewes will hook you if they think they can get the food out of your bucket. The Suffolks out weigh a full sized man so the boys of course can't go in with them unless we are vetting one of them they do seem to be less agressive though. Our weaned lambs are in a pen and even they push the kids over at feeding time but the boys play with them at off times. I see what you mean about the personalities we have bottled alot of calves and had 3 or 4 we kept all but one got standoffish and that one was more like a pet. She was hand fed her water, hay , and grain still, walked on a leash. SPOILED ROTTEN. I still miss that one we had to tighen the budget alot so the cows had to go as did all the sheep and goats and few of the horses. Wow glad things got better. Anyway gotta do chores before it's 100. Have a good weekend.
