Nothing I have ever tried will keep 100 percent of the flies away. Best to keep a dressing on. Your vet may have some stickier tape you can use or duct tape works pretty well. You can probably leave the dressing for two or three days if it stays reasonably clean and dry. A product called vetwrap available at most feed stores also works well as it sticks only to itself and is easy to form into a comfortable bandage around eyes and ears. When I have had to bandage the horn area, I wrap around the jaw and behind the ears, trimming or pinching the bandage away from the eyes. Wrap fairly firmly as a loose bandage is very irritating.
