![]() A Swiss goat (Canton of Tessin), the Verzasca goat as known by the international breed name, is also referred to as the Schwarzer Tessiner and Nera Verzasca. Black in color, the Verzasca is primarily used for meat, milk and vegetation management. Being large in size, the Verzasca is comparable to the Saanen breed where it is a) much older in age at sexual maturity, b) higher in %fat, % protein, daily gain, muscularity and carcass leaness, c) equal to the Saanen in litter size, length of mating seaon and kidding interval, and, d) much lower when compared to the Saanen in milk yield. The herdbook for this goat was established in 1940.
