I haven't seen any sign of an absess yet, so if that is the problem, it hasn't come through yet. We trimmed her feet tonight and her leg and foot doesn't seem to be injured in any way...no cuts, scratches or bruises. She did seem a little sensitive under the pads of her heel.
I was thinking about soaking in epsom salts or applying icthamol (that black smelly stuff) to see if that would help. Might try that tomorrow night.
An absess is an infection that occurs in the hoof and will cause lameness and pain, until it "breaks through" usually at the top of the hoof or through the sole. Then it drains and smells really rank! I've never dealt with one in my horses either, but my neighbors' had a donkey with one.
Will be waiting to hear how you make out with your sheep!
