Sorry Long Story: Nightmare this morning at 5 a.m :(

Amber Waves Pygmy Goats Jolly German Jams and Jellies

I had a bad awaking this morning. I got up at 5 a.m. with plans of going out on the lake with a friend when I got up and walked out of my bedroom which is on the far side of the house and away from my goat lots I heard dogs barking and goats screaming. I ran out of the house faster then a bolt of lighting striking and found 2 dogs in with 5 of my oldest goats that I raised from babies. Luckily their were holding their ground all of them were facing the dogs. 2 of the dogs were in the pen with the goats and the other dog was outside the fence just next to them raising all kinds of hell. I was screaming with all I had, the dog on the outside of the fence ran right by me doing a hundred, one of the others ran to the corner of my goat lot and got out someway, while the last of the three ran over to me as if he was wanting to be petted . I could tell at that point the 5 goats were not in any immediate danger so I ran back in the house and called my parents that live just down the end of my drive and told them what was happening. They were there in about 8 minutes, meanwhile as I ran back to the barn I seen what real damage that had been done in one of my other goats lots. TrisheeAnn’s mom was dead and papa John was in serious bad shape. Both had been mauled and Mama Nanny was already dead. You all probably remember TrisheeAnn’s mom she’s the one that was blind from Listeriosis and had survived that. My heart just sank to the pit of my stomach at the sight of her there with her neck ripped open. My dad shot and rolled one of the dogs, but it got up and ran off. It was a large black mean looking dog. The dog that I was able to catch was just a young dog and it had a name and address and phone number attached to its collar. I first called the sheriffs Dept to have an officer come out and make a report and was told that Animal Control handled these kinds of reports , so the Sheriffs dept took my information and they called the Animal Control Center which in turn ended up calling me, but I wasn‘t in to talk to them until several hours later.. I called the phone number on the dogs collar and spoke with the owner of the dogs and they went out to see if their dogs were up like they were suppose to be and sure enough they were gone. I said well I have one hitched here at my place and if you want him back then come see me. Now Im not a mean person and I love all animals but when it comes to my goat kids that’s another story all together. My goats are where their belong and are safe and your dogs comes and does this type of damage then I expect restitution one way or the other. They agreed 100 % with me and was very sorry that this happened. The man and lady both came over to see me about all this and truly felt that the damage was more then likely caused by the biggest and oldest dog in the bunch. I told them that the black dogs was shot at and rolled with a shotgun but got up and ran. We all talked for probably 30 minutes about the situation while I doctored on papa and agreed on a restitution amount for the lose and damage done to my goats by the dogs. Now I know some of you may be thinking I handled this probably the wrong way. I did tell the people if it happened again and I caught the dog or dogs I will not be calling the next time. I know where these people live and I ask them if I could please come over to their place and view their place where these dogs were kept and they said I was more then welcomed to come over and view it. The man also told me that the oldest black dog that was involved in all this would be taken care of. I followed them back to their place and sure enough the big black dog was back home and had blood on his face and neck. He was also hit with buckshot from the gunshot but in no way harmed much. These people probably live in a ½ million dollar home it was beautiful and the fenced in area for the dogs had a huge dog house and we even walked the fence and found where the dogs had gotten out during the night. The man then done something then that really made me sick to my stomach, he went inside and came out with a gun and ask me if I would rather leave or stay but the dog was going. I told him I would prefer to watch from a distance please. So I do feel somewhat vindicated for the horrible events of this morning by witnessing this dog being destroyed . They promised the other dogs would be secured and I would not see them again on my property. The other 2 dogs were 7 and 8 months old. I ask to see the tags and papers for all the dogs to verify they had received their rabies shots and I was shown the papers. Even tho I caught the 2 young dogs in with my goats when I first went out this morning those five goats didn’t have a scratch on them. I truly feel the black dog was the one that had gotten into nanny’s and papa’s fenced in area as I found black hair where he had squeezed under the fence and he had dried blood in his hair on his face and neck when he went back home. My 3rd goat lot where I have 7 three year olds as far as I can tell the dogs didn’t even get into that lot. Thank God .. All was well with them just scared. I have started Papa on antibiotic and will stop by my vets tomorrow for something for pain to give him. The lady as called me twice already this afternoon asking about papa’s condition. I also got a electric baby monitor and tested it out at the barn and in the house and I can hear the goats smallest grunt with it. I talked to a girl friend that had dogs get in her goats back in 95 and she said if dogs get around or in with goats they always bark during or while attacking. Sorry for being so long winded with all this. Keep Papa in your prayers. Off to the barn to sit with Papa.. Sandy & kids
